Temple Leadership What is a Divan? Each Shrine Temple has its own Divan (temple leadership), which consists of a minimum of five members as mandated by Imperial by-laws. These Divan members are elected by the members of the temple, also called the Nobility. Additional positions on the Divan, beyond the minimum requirement, are typically appointed by the Potentate. Similar to many Masonic organizations, the Divan follows a progressive line. This means that each year, one new member is appointed or elected to the line, while existing members move up one position. The top member of the Divan retires from the line and assumes the role of Past Potentate. In addition to the elected Divan members, the Recorder (Secretary) and Treasurer are also considered part of the Divan. Unlike the members in the progressive line, these officers may serve in their respective roles for more than one year if re-elected. Elected Divan 2025 Officers Ill. Kalurah Shriners Binghamton, New York About A Fraternity Defined by Fun, Fellowship and Philanthropy Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. With nearly 200 local chapters and thousands of clubs on six continents, Shriners are known for their fellowship, brotherhood, compassion and generosity. The fraternity established Shriners Hospitals for Children as its official philanthropy in 1922, and continues to support it today, while striving to make the world a happier, better place. Shriners International helps good men become better leaders, husbands, fathers, friends and community contributors. Brotherhood is the cultural foundation that distinguishes our fraternity from other groups and associations. When you become a Shriner, you join a network of nearly 200,000 brothers around the globe who are dedicated to helping and supporting each other personally and professionally. Kalurah Shriners serves the area of Binghamton, New York, and the surrounding communities. Our Initiatives Fun Shriners International was founded to add fun and fellowship to the Masonic fraternal experience. That tradition continues today. With thousands of activity-based clubs and units around the world, our organization has something for men of all interests and backgrounds. Our members are also encouraged to build their own experience by coming up with unique ideas for having fun, and our Shrine Centers will provide the means and support to turn those ideas into reality. Shriners are #First2Fun. Fellowship Although Shriners International is a brotherhood, it is also an organization that celebrates the importance of family. Many of our events and activities are designed to include spouses, children and grandchildren, and to promote shared values. If you are a working professional with a busy schedule, this allows you to spend quality time with your brothers while simultaneously strengthening your family bonds. Shriners and their extended families are a large, compassionate, supportive group where lasting relationships are formed. A variety of affiliated organizations for both women and children, emphasizing personal growth, fun and friendship, participate along with Shriners. Philanthropy In 1922, fueled by their desire to make a difference in the world, Shriners founded their own philanthropy, Shriners Children’s. Over the past century, it has become one of the largest pediatric sub-specialty healthcare systems in the world with locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. An exclusive benefit as a Shriner is the opportunity to serve in several meaningful and mission critical roles in support of Shriners Children's. Shriners are elected by the fraternity’s membership to strategically guide the health care system’s direction through serving on Shriners Children’s Board of Directors, Board of Trustees and at a local level, as officers on each facility's Board of Governors. Shriners also play an active role in volunteering their time at our hospitals and facilities and by raising funds for the healthcare system. Shriners Children's Shriners International members, their families and partner organizations are committed to improving the lives of children throughout the world. Through fundraising, volunteering, education, awareness campaigns, board leadership and more, the impact of the fraternity and supporters, help Shriners Children's provide the most amazing care anywhere.
